The House is Quiet

The house is quiet . . .

the guests are gone, the leftovers have all been eaten, the bedding is washed and the beds are freshly made. The family is gone. The house is so, so very quiet.

Thanksgiving

What are we thankful for?

Thanksgiving 2004.jpg

I realize this looks like no one else was there, but we were. There were 14 of us, more than I think I have ever had at Thanksgiving before. We missed you, who couldn't be there. We would have made room at the table for you. And there was enough food, and then some. I made roasted veggies, including beets. Never tried them before, but they will reappear on my menus in the future. Yum. I know it isn't really about the food, but it was fun to exercise my cooking muscles, something I haven't been doing much lately.

Comments, Please?

As we approach the Thanksgiving Tradition, we think back on traditions and those part of our lives that stay the same. Which brings me to part of our life that has changed.

It worked!

Okay, maybe the trick is to upload the image, Then write the entry! Not that that makes any sense, but if it works, it works!!!!

Of course, I don't know where the other message I started writing went, but who cares? This is the important one.
Enjoy!

The Tradition lives on . . .

In case anyone thought Daddy and I weren't communicating . . .

Okay, okay, the only communicating that isn't going on is between me and the computer. I did upload file thing and nothing happened! I mean, the little computer icon in the lower right hand corner blinked to beat the band, but no file seems to upload! Why doesn't this work for me? I have done it in the past, so I should be able to do it now! I got a digitial camera for my birthday and wanted to share my first photo with you.

Let Them Eat Cake

Thank you, Mara.

I made a cake for the Holy Day yesterday! Boy, was it yummy!
What does this have to do with Mara? She sent me some orange marmalade made from the oranges from the Ridvan Garden at Bahji. That makes the marmalade special. I could have just eaten it, but I wanted to share this special treat with the whole community. But how? Toast for everyone? No, that didn't quite do the trick for me. So, I went to my Cooking Light book.

I found a Marmalade cake. No, you don't put the marmalade in the cake, but on the cake. I'm not sure why it is a 'light' cake. It had more butter than a cake mix. The marmalade was sort of bitter from the rinds. You can't get this kind of marmalade here. Only the sweet kind. The bitter marmalade played nicely against the sweet cake, and the sour juice permeating the cake and the sour cream in the frosting. Wow! It was good. Now, I'm not sure that everyone appreciated the cake, but I thought it was pretty yummy! And special. Thank you, Mara.

I didn't make it to the store to shop for the camera. Gloria and I didn't even get to eat lunch. Maybe nest week?

Gramma's News

Well, good news!

Gramma is going home tomorrow. I have not seen her since her surgery, but I have spoken with her almost everyday. She is definitely feeling better. She will be going to the hospital twice a week to get her physical therapy so she can regain her range of motion and U. Gene will be staying for at least three more weeks, until Thanksgiving. I’m not sure where we will have Thanksgiving. I’m thinking that I might make dinner and take it over there. The drive is not the issue, but getting into our house might be a big challenge. We’ll see. Let me know if you are coming home for Thanksgiving so I know how big a turkey to get. (That is actually a little joke. I pretty much know who is coming and who can’t make it. Maybe this is a test to see who actually reads my blog.)
