This is it, kiddies. We're headed off to the Opera (for free!). We'll be sitting just behind the Mezzanine boxes, and I am thrilled at the excellence of our seats. :) Thank you, my unknown friend, who, though unable to attend, offered his tickets to my coworker. (And thank you to my coworker, who knew that this would make my life). :)
Congratulations! I hope you had a blast. Yay for random acts of kindness :-)
OMG! Did you attend the operathon? Wow!!!!!!!!
I am so happy for the exuberance in your blog-voice I hear. I hope you enjoyed it as much as you intimate here. I had a special visit to Eric and Rachael's new home. They seem to live in a cultural center of the Greater Pittsburgh area. No! That's not an oxymoron. There is a diversity of churches. a plenitude of architectural styles in housing and bridges, in a texture of many ethnic restaurants and upscale shoppes mingled with the older homes and buildings and two major universities within walking or biking distance, and public parks. We went apple picking only thirty minutes away in the country. Of course, the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers forming the Ohio at the Pointe are interesting geographically. I hope to go back and get some French Crepes at a Crepes Panini place I saw out walking to a coffee shop this morning.Just off Walnut St. near S. Graham on the south side of the tracks across a walkway over freeway and trainway.
It was pretty awesome. We saw Bizet's Les Pecheurs des Pearles (sp?). The orchestra was unbelievably together (really, really top notch - usually I can hear multiple players, and these guys were indistinguishable), the main three cast characters were phenomenal (really great use of the room and acoustics), and even the choreography, lighting, costumes, etc. etc, were just amazing. Don't tell Mendon, but I even got kinda teary at one point - it was that convincing. Plus, we had 3 or 4 middle aged opera hooligans who sat directly behind us, and they were sort of the icing on the cake for me. :)
(Perles) Since you asked. :-)
I'm glad everyone had a great weekend!
Ohh, Papa, I want to go try those crepes, too!! Sorry we didn't get out to Pittsburgh to be with you this weekend, but it sounds like you had a great time.
We went pumpkin picking with friends. It was so much fun. I'll go upload the tons of photos we have of the kids being cute together now.
Sounds amazing!
Re: your last post, Kansas has also been quite wet the past couple days. I don't bike anywhere near 9 miles, but wet is wet. Even just a couple blocks in a downpouring thunderstorm will soak through your jeans and fog up your glasses!
My bike seat has, by design, a sort of hole in the middle of it, for "comfort". When I ride through a puddle, water sprays up through it onto my butt! Quite ridiculous!
Hayley, that's hilarious.
I came here from google. After reading
Goodness I bookmarked this but forgot about it and now I am so pleased to find it again
