Moratorium

Just so you know, you will not be reading any more cancer news on this website for at least 5 weeks. Yes, that is right. I won't be writing another word about it until I have had my scan, and maybe then I will have something to say. I feel as though I have inundated you with my disease and everyone has just had enough -- me included. So, I will be posting, but not about cancer. At least, for a while. Watch for more interesting things, more fun things. The clematis is blooming. Photos to follow.

Are the cherries ripe yet? When are they usually in season? I feel like some time in June because I remember that one family reunion where Nathan demanded that we pick ALL the ripe cherries before we left.

They are usually ripe the very last week of June. I always remember Grampa saying, "Cherry pie for the Fourth of July", and being confused because they were always ripe the week before.

I remember that cherry picking 'event' too! With great fondness and laughter. Nathan had just gotten out of the Marines (well, within a year) and was still sort of in Marine mode. We had picked a lot of cherries already, but it was a bumper crop that year. We were headed to Gramma's (though I don't think it was family reunion -- too early in the summer for that) and I didn't want to be bothered with the rest of the cherries on the tree. We had plenty and I was willing to feed the birds. Not Nathan. He mobilized the four of you to pick the tree clean, wash and pit and bag all the cherries -- then clean up the kitchen -- all without being late for Gramma's. It was sort of amazing! Nothing short of miraculous!
