I'm taking a risk here
I know everyone (except maybe Mark and Mara) would love to hear about our trip to Israel, but I have more pressing things on my mind.
This is really risky to talk about because it will cause those webwalkers, those reaper of random words, to be drawn to this website and to infiltrate and cling to the insides of our computers, but I am going to take the risk anyway. Forgive me.
Juno has changed its format, or operations or whatever, but it isn't the same Juno that I have loved and all of you have hated. I know the answer is to up-grade the technology, but I think I need some help here.
Here is the story. I pay for Juno, not a lot, but it is our internet service. No sense in paying twice, so, unfortunately Daddy has the 'free' account. That means that he can only access his email while connected to the internet, while I can work on mine offline. The problem he has with it on-line is that a) if he is composing a letter and he goes back to look at something, his draft disappears and b) sometimes, his session is just 'up' and he is cut off and loses everything. Naturally, he finds this very frustrating! I would fix it for him if I knew how. I think I should be able to set up his juno account or his dornbrook.com account with Outlook (?) so he can work on it off-line, but the help is no help and I can't figure it out. Do any of you have any suggestions?
And, yes, I promise that I will write about Israel. But, then, it seems that I never did about Mexico either. Well, I'll try. I have been looking at the photos and trying to sort through them a bit. Wow! Did I ever take a lot! Next, I will work on quality!

What is the point of having computer professionals as sons and sons-in-law if I can't even get my basic (stupid) questions answered? And where are all those stalkers? I thought SomeOne would say SomeThing about this. So . . . there is no help available? I guess I will have to ask someone around here. (sigh) Maybe Jamal will help me. (sigh)

I'll try to get Mark to look at this (he doesn't read our blogs much)

Nannie,
I'm not sure about what you're describing... people are stalking you?

People who send out ads are the ones stalking me, but that really is not the issue here. The issue is figuring out how to use Outlook and if I really want to do so or not. Sorry for the confusion.
I want to set up Daddy's email so that he can access it off-line instead of only through the internet. I realize that this would mean that Daddy would have to learn a new technology, but I am willing to risk it. I think. He is just finding that the 'new' Juno to be not very useful. It may be one of those things of 'you have to be there'.

here's a suggestion from the least savvy of your sons. when I was in gambia I had a much worse case of the deleteds than pappa can even imagine. you have no idea how many beautiful emails you just never received because i couldn't or was too depressed to rewrite. So for the sake of pappa here's the trick. don't compose in Juno. that should be obvious. Compose your drafts in Word. that way you can leave them, cogitate for a while, and then come back to them. you can even save them and sleep on them. it's time to teach pappa a few keyboard commands also associated with the right mouse button. ctrl + c allows you to copy a highlighted selection of text. ctrl + v allows you to paste that copied highlighted text wherever your typing cursor is. and, most usefully of all (and i hesitate to post this one because it allows for incredibly long emails to be easily copied) ctrl + a highlights an entire document's text!
there you have it. until you upgrade (which will be never) pappa can work with much fewer frustrations and keep the phone line free until he needs to get online, check his mail, post, and sign off.

Solution:
I am going to have Aimee, one of the students from the office, who is enamoured of technology, come over next weekend and set up Outlook for me. It's okay. I love all of you, whether you can help with this or not.
I'll make some chili or something for dinner and feed her and her daughter (Killian is 3 and a total hoot!) and we will have a good time.
