Hackneyed Metaphors

Let me see. . . I have used tried and true; good news, bad news; for crying out loud . . . what shall I use next? How about from bad to worse? No, that doesn’t quite hit it . . . I got it! Add insult to injury! Yes, that will be the title.

Well, the good news is that Gramma is not anemic. Well a little low on her hemoglobin, but nothing serious. Her only treatment is to take a multivite a day. (In the meantime, I've been on supplemental iron for a whole year now with no sign of going off it soon.) The bad news is that the date for her surgery has passed, her doctor went on vacation, Grampa came back from the nursing home and Gramma still has to wait until about Thanksgiving for her surgery. But you know Gramma. She is making the best of it. She is thoroughly enjoying having U. Gene home. When I called her this evening to see how she was doing, she was making strawberry short cake. So Gramma. Remind me to be more like her.

Ah!! Que frustrado! I can't believe they couldn't think to tell her to take a flippin' multivite way back when!

Good on Gramma, though ... mmm, I have lovely, yummy memories of strawberry shortcake!!!

Not only that, but she wasn't even anemic! Like they had to stop the surgery for a low hemotocrit?!? The hospital thought so, but her doctor didn't. And the part that really gripes my lower anatomy is that no one has apologized!

i really like that lower anatomy comment maman. by the way, no one is ever willing to apologize. that means that they were wrong and then that means that they are vulnerable to litigation and who wants to be sued?

I don't know . . . my mother always said, "I'm sorry", as in 'I'm sorry you have a cold', I"m sorry you are feeling sad'. That didn't mean that she took responsibility for giving you the cold or for your being sad, but that she was empathatic. Extending sympathy and support. That's all I want for Gramma. "I'm sorry this happened to you and you have to wait in excruciating pain for the next two months." That's all.

Hmm... you know, I think that was the main crux of my irritation with the University of Cincinnati.

A little bit of empathy goes a long way.
