Terrorist Attacks in London

With many London metropolitan area police diverted to Edinburgh to protect the G8 summit, London had fewer security staff covering the transportation infrastructure.

There were somewhere between four and seven incidents, depending on to whom you listen. The Transport London website lists four bomb attacks, three on train/tube stations and one on a bus.

The BBC is reporting six bombs, five on train or tube stations and one on a bus. There was additionally a collision that killed at least four and may be unrelated. A timeline has not yet emerged.

I feel numb.

The very openness of our societies is being exploited as a principal vulnerability.

You got it. So what is our response?

I also feel numb. depressed to the core. I listened to the BBC this morning via NPR on my way to work.

In my heart, there is no joy after our dear friends in England must endure another unconscionable act against humanity. I ache for justice in these circumstances and know it will take much time before that can occur. I pray for the families of the victims and for the nation as a whole. I also long for a anxiously awaited peace among mankind.

Something I take from this, from my vantage point, is the hatred that has enveloped the attackers' hearts. They are obsessed and engrossed in that hatred. They are nothing but shells of hatred. And that is what we must avoid, in my opinion. They want to harden us - make us a bit more like them, which is just so sad.

And as long as I can remain open and loving towards new people I meet, than I am resisting this perversion. Fanaticism and extremism fuel each other. These, I think, are things to combat.

["us" = the entire world; "them" = handful of sick, twisted, mangled souls]

Nae, I think the numbness that you are feeling might be akin to the feeling we had after 911. Not something I would wish on anyone, nor do I want to go through again.
You were planning to return to the States in early July. I imagine that these events might impact that plan?

Maman,

You're right about the numbness.

I'm headed back anyway, though. I'll be getting to Alexandria tomorrow afternoon.

The thing is that - this wont work efficiently in any way. Crazy idea, EOT!
