According to the police...
The police are now saying that Edinburgh is safe to travel in and have advised that the difficult folks are mostly cleaned up and carted away.
Reports are that the 400 or so down by Jenners - across from the Balmoral, up a bit from the Burger King, right near the Bridges - were causing a kafuffle and some of them got arrested.
I'll check it out later.

p.s. it's spelled 'kerfuffle' - never would have guessed, though, would you?!
In fact, Oxford's says it may either have its origins in Scottish Gaelic (car + fuffle) or Irish (cior thual).

I like the juxtaposition of "Balmoral" and "Burger King."
BTW, just finished reading Caleb Carr's "The Italian Secretary," which is a new Sherlock Holmes story. The estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle gave Carr the right to use the Holmes universe and its characters.
Most of the action takes place in Edinburgh, specifically at Holyrood Palace.
