Then home to Virginia...

I did make the flight the next day.

It was a packed but uneventful flight back; Norah Jones & Cravin' Melon on the MiniDisc, a quick connection to DCA and Chris picked me up from the metro station.

Chris Tisdale, for those of you who might not know, is one of the men I admire most. He is the embodiment of the twin virtues of honor and integrity. He also happens to be my roommate in Alexandria.

This is Chris.

Chris is a sexy little thang, ain't he?

Chris is featured here with the number 10 tin can of fruit cocktail. That's right, the fruit cocktail of legend.

The very fruit cocktail that was to accompany us on the upcoming road trip.

Chris and I went home, hung out, had a few beers at our local pub - the Union Street Tavern, where he always gets free drinks, the good looking, sweet talking bastard! We got chatted up by some tart named Amy, who told us that she thought I was the most interesting of our lot. It would have been good for my ego except that she was A] married and B] a complete psycho.

Even if I'd been willing (I wasn't), I'd have had to have turned her down - her poor husband already has enough problems just being married to her.

I finally crawled into my bed around 0100, almost a full 24 hours after waking up that morning in the U.K.

I see Chris is also sitting in the famed not-so-white plastic patio chair......are you guys ever going to purchase proper desk chairs!

Okay, a bit of background for those who have never visited my flat in Alexandria: I have lawn furniture. Not just any lawn furniture, but hand me downs that were left behind by the previous tenants. As trash. They were left in the small garden out the back along with heaps of garbage. They were overgrown with black mold; we tried to wash it off, but since it wasn't sticking to our clothes we decided to just keep and use the chairs. Originally, they were kept outside, but when James moved he took all the furniture with him - Chris and I owned none. Carol and Ange forced me, against my will, to take the U-Haul that James had just used to move out and drive to Ikea, where they bought some $14,000 worth of furniture with my money - but no real chairs. I still feel weak in the knees when I think about it. Anyway, I bought some green folding chairs, but totally destroyed them by bending the frames with my massive bulk, so back to the white lawn chairs.

Forced you; against your will!!!

Oh, it wasn't that much, no way it was over 5 grand at IKEA!

And by the way, your place was scary when James moved; how would you entertain guests with only a single weight bench to offer as a seat? (Let's not forget the molded patio chairs.) Plus you still had the faded red, curry smelling carpet. I could not allow my friend to live in such conditions!

But now, you have some kick-ass black leather couches on a very nice bamboo wood floor; not yet completed, but nice!

I totally blame it on Carol, if she had never started me on the idea of black leather couches, I would have offered opinion on something less expensive.

Come on, admit it, you really like it; I can't help it if you had to up and leave again so you don't get to enjoy the new stuff.

Ha ha! It's worse than Ange makes it sound, actually! I didn't even have the weight bench yet.

And the oft quoted (by me, anyway) $14000 does include things like the paint and the floor and the rug and the bookshelves.

So, fair enough. And the black leather couches are NICE - they're really comfortable.
