Are you using Mozilla's Firefox as your main browser yet? This is, in my opinion, one of the most useful internet tools for the lay browser. The benefits of Firefox are myriad. At one point, the browser wasn't compatible with yahoo games. That was such a time saver, no wasting time playing gem drop. Anyhow, humor aside, I'd like to reccomend to you an add-on that is absolutely imperative to the older internet user and nice for the younger one.
As you have most likely done, you've clicked on my animated .gif file and seen my pseudo add. Because it blinks, it is extremely distracting and, almost invariably, will reduce your online IQ score or ability to read personal emails. I recently downloaded the newest version of Firefox and am happily using it. However, I noticed that they have an add-on called adblock plus. Basically, it keeps advertisements from loading on the web page. Following is an example of what this looks like:
Typically Annoying Ad
Personal Email, minus stupid Juno Ad
And you shared this because . . .?

I made the above comment in regards to your self-proclaimed "Typically Annoying Ad", NOT in reference to the Mozilla ad-on, which I have, use, and am grateful for.
Posted by: Ma at August 26, 2006 7:21 AMI guess I don't have to check my email now! :-)
I hope it all works out well for you.

I'm cool with that. I'm sure that my entire readership of eight is familiar with your original context. However, if you'd like to submit another comment that will replace your original comments, I'll be happy to delete them (the first two).

Love Firefox and LOVE adblock. I can't stand using public computers that don't have them. Fortunately that necessity doesn't arise often. :)
Actually just had to go purchase a new MacBook because my PowerBook finally made its last bow -- and the first thing I did was download Firefox. :)
Posted by: Janet at August 26, 2006 3:41 PMFirefox does have one cavet. Memory bleed. It stamps all over memory. I've had processes of Firefox run 200-300MB in size. Nothing a quick exit and restart won't fix, but it's annoying that the programmers can't manage their memory usage correctly. This is not to say IE does much better in other aspects. God forbid IE7 ever sees the light of day.
Another cool thing are the portable versions of Firefox and Openoffice that you can download to your handy flash drive and always have the programs you need and want. I actually have a copy of DSL(Damn Small Linux) on my Ipod Nano. Saves the hassle of booting to the local install.
Posted by: Andrew at August 26, 2006 4:20 PMActually, I avoid Firefox when possible. I find it closes itself randomly far too often for my like, and it doesn't allow me easy access tabs like Safari does.
Posted by: Mara at August 27, 2006 3:39 AMI'm surprised. I have never had Firefox randomly close on me. I wonder why that happens. One thing I wish I could do better is the tabs. When I go to my bookmarks and open a new set of tabs, all is okay until I want to return to my original set of tabs. If I go home, then I have about a dozen tabs and can only read the first letter of each, so I endup closing Firefox altogether and reopening it. Any suggestions? Besides use Safari?
Posted by: Ma at August 27, 2006 6:58 AMI use Firefox at work, and I really enjoy the plethora of plug-ins (I also love it when the usage of "plethora" is justified... such a warm feeling), but Safari on the Intel Macs is just pure bliss. Extremely quick and clean.
Posted by: Mark Fojas at August 28, 2006 3:32 PMMaybe I should revisit Safari.
Posted by: Ma at August 29, 2006 10:43 AMFirefox randomly closes on me. It also is very slow to start sometimes, which can be irritating.
I would like adblock. But when I tried to get it, it told me it was not compatible with this version of Firefox. I don't know what version I am using, but it tells me there are no updates. When things like that happen, it makes me feel kind of stupid.
