Pollyanna vs. Shaun of the Dead
Aunt Cindy invited me over for a bowl of soup and to watch her newest favorite movie, Pollyanna. It was a PBS Masterpiece Theater that she had tried to record, but got started too late, so bought the video. She was so excited about it. I got there, we had supper, Ev retired to the family room. Alana and I talked knitting, while Cindy cleaned up and puttered.
When it came time to watch the video, Alana was prodding me to hurry and said I should leave my knitting because I would have to "pay attention watching Pollyanna, or I would miss stuff". (huh?) So I gathered my knitting (I can knit without looking much), my tea, finished my dessert and settled in to the sofa. Everett stayed. (huh? He usually beats feet when we come armed to watch a movie.) I'm fussing with my knitting while they get the DVD set up. A preview comes on. (hmmm, I think, I thought they usually matched the previews to the type of movie. This preview seems a bit out of character for Pollyanna.)
Then Uncle Ev says, "Okay you have to turn out the light now."
Shaun of the Dead was the movie of the night! It was funny. If you haven't seen it, I suggest it. It is a good laugh. I enjoyed it more than I think I would have Pollyanna.
I guess it was one of those 'you had to be there' moments. The funniest part was that the Halls all conspired to put this over on me. While they were fussing with the DVD (Aunt Cindy was trying desperately to get past the preview so as to not give it away), I said to Cindy, "There are some movies we need to watch. Shaun of the Dead and Lemony Snicket." Uncle Ev, just looked at me and said, "There ya go." (huh? But, then I have never claimed to understand the man.) Of course, he knew we were about to watch it, so in retrospect, it did make sense.
Anyway, it was funny.

Hahahahaha! What is Shaun of the Dead? I've never heard of it - though Mark is swearing that Nathan tried to get us to see it while we were in Scotland. Yay! Hall family unity - good stuff :-)
Lemony Snickett movies?! I had no idea. We gave some of those books as Xmas gifts to Mari a while back. Cool! Heheheheh...I have so much movie watching to catch up on!

Shaun of the Dead is a spoof of Dawn of the Dead. British and quite funny. The Halls own it so you can borrow it when you visit.
The Lemony Snickett movie has Jim Carrey in it. I don't really like him but as his body of work grows (and improves) I am gaining more respect for him and his talent. The movie got great reviews.

The movie got okay reviews. They said everybody was good except for Jim Carey stinking it up. i like his acting when he is serious but when he does anything that resembles pet detective or whatever those movies were I just want to throw up! I haven't watched it but he's probably ruined the movie.

I agree with the whole Pet Dectective opinion. Real stinker of a movie! But we watched Eternal Sunshine (with you, Rae) and he wasn't as bad. I would give him a chance in Lemony Snicket. The review that I read, but not to closely, didn't say much about his performance. Or at least I don't remember them saying anything about him. I guess they must have! You don't have a star of his size (payroll) without commenting on the job he did. I still want to see it.

Actually we left before eternal sunshine started...didn't want to only watch part of it. He can be good, but just from the snippets and commercials this film is leaning towards his bad acting tendencies.

Eric and I just watched Sunshine of the spotless mind- fantastic. We give it five stars. Fabulous movie. Nate - if you haven't seen go watch it.

Rae, I am really confused! Didn't you watch it with us? Or was that Nae who brought it home and we watched it together?
