I graduated about a month and a week ago. I've finally managed to enter into the body of people known as the "structurally unemployed." We wander aimlessly through job offers, derelicts in the world of gainful employment. Ever envious of those who have jobs that they detest and despise. I am unqualified for anything specific. There is no work available for "creative critical thinking oriented people." The more I look back, I feel that I should have followed the advice of that obnoxious aptitude test and gone on to study business instead of psychology.
Hark.
What is that sound? Do'st thou hear it too? Is that the rapid and brisk crystallization of my idealism into a pure, lustrous foggy green stone known as jade? Have I? Me? No, I can't be jaded yet. It's only been a month!
In short: Oxford is a crappy place to look for jobs. If anyone has any interesting openinings that they're aware of, or any openings, period, please let me know. They don't have to be in the area.
I imagine it is frustrating right now, but companies and institutions are just figuring out their new budgets. April and May always are a flurry od activity but there are institutions there which might look early for a graduate in mid year. Try the hospital for outpatient clinical work or admitting. See you soon.
Posted by: papa at January 22, 2007 4:32 PMIf you're at all interested in research, you should go through job listings at children's hospital in Cincy. I even recall a listing for an ethicist -- so there is your opening for creative critical thinking. :) Or if you're interested in any kind of experience in mental health, you could apply with core behavioral health in hamilton county. They're always hiring case managers. Or St Joseph or St Aloysius orphanages (that's rough work though). The community mental health agencies are always looking for people with background in the field for case management or other related fields. Shoot me an email if you're at all interested and I can round up the URL's for you.

Posted by: Hayley at January 22, 2007 5:54 PMJanet is on the right track, Mensch. Department of Jobs and Family Services is another place you might want to look as case worker or something.
Posted by: Mara at January 22, 2007 8:02 PMIsn't it striking that Bachelor degrees do not contain useful skills anymore? Yes, they offer recognition, but skills, they lack.

It's Columbus mostly, but worth a look.
Posted by: Andrew at January 22, 2007 8:51 PMMensch, darling, don't make such an ordeal out of it. You are biding time right now, not making major career moves. It's okay to take a job waiting tables (as long as it is a white table cloth restaurant) just to have an income while waiting for Kristen to graduate so you can both move on the the next phase of your life together. It's called 'paying your dues.' Future employers won't think badly of you for it. They will say, here is a fellow who is willing to work.
