Clone High
The Cutting of the Cake
Mara has informed me of how to solve my photo problem for my blog. Hurrah! Thanks chica:) So, after my first and failed attempt at hosting a social
event in DC Eric and I are having a CLone High Marathon. Hopefully my people will show up. I tried to have a barbeque this summer and only one other person came. Everyone else had last minute cancelations! I've even invited a couple of people from our appartment complex. I'm being social! Of course we've invited frineds from school and work too.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Clone High, it's a hilarious cartoon sitcom that parodies...well, everything. It's great. I suppose it could be seen as offensive cause you've got clones of Ghandi and other such famous folks. But it is SO hilarious. Unfortunately it only ever made it through one season.
Time has recently been flying past. Growing up it seemed to go a little slower. Perhaps it's because weekends come and go and I'm still tired and haven't had my fun like we used to in elementary school. Is it perhaps that hideous 'R' word that has time flying past me? THat's responsibility in case you're wondering. For those of you who have experienced this...is there a cure? What have you done to slow time without making that a bad thing? I realize that perhaps this month is a bad time to be asking this question in relation to my fasting family! ANyhow... I'll let you know if I find any solutions on my own.

How funny - we're having a Firefly marathon this weekend ... another television show cancelled after one season (and it's awesome!). I guess you'll just have to come here and see it! Hahaha.
Slowing time down... I think we all struggle with it (except for the time I was trying my darnedest to graduate from grad school!!) Actually, I find that if I have a fun book I am reading recreationally, that somehow gives me the feeling that I have a little breath time. Does that make sense? I take a few minutes before bed to read a chapter - in other words, I make time to just chill a little because I want to read this book. :-)

Mara,
Just taking the time to write in my blog helps me feel that I am taking time to slow down and think. After writing this blog I left for work and continued reading Zen and the art of Motorcycle maintenance. It is very enjoyable and discusses the value in taking the scenic routes in the beginning of the book. Have you read it? it's really good so far, though a bit 'blah blah blah" at times to get across it's point. I'm in it more for the story than the philosophical stuff...which is maybe sort of ironic...or just funny.

I haven't read the book, though I've heard of it. I finished the Pharmacist's Mate (in, like, a day :-)) - that was a cool little book. I'm just finishing up Marriage Beyond Black & White about an interracial couple that got married back in the 40s I think. At that time, their marriage was illegal in 27 states! Can you believe it? The first half of the book is the wife telling their story, which is very engrossing, and the second half is from one of their son's perspectives. A little less engrossing, but interesting ;-).

I used to count myself to sleep when I was having trouble sleeping or turning my brain off in order to sleep. After reading the Pharmcist's Mate, I count in the same manner that the author numbers her entrees in the second half of her book...based on 'shimmering'. I say "one, one, one..." until I'm sound asleep:)
