The First Day of Autumn

We all know that the Autumnal Equinox is in the wee hours of September 23 this year. However, we also know that there is a day either before or after the equinox when it truly becomes Autumn. In SouthWest Ohio, today was that day. It was the first day to be noticeably chilly all day, regardless of sunniness. Moreover, I am making soupfor the first time in about three months. Go figure.

For whatever reason, the smell of chicken soup boiling on the stove also makes me feel as though I were fasting. I'm even getting light headed and really thirsty. But, I'm not fasting, so, I'm going to go get a glass of water before March 2 gets here.

Here is what is in my soup:
fresh bagged spinach (I know, I know, but I'm boiling it)
carrots
onions
garlic
snap peas
September's Basil (bought at the farmer's market)
Chicken
Cracked Pepper
rice
a little salt

It's a wonderful occasion, isn't it? The beginning of Autumn. I even saw the giant, harmless puffs of cloud today amongst the other notations of a cool breeze, the changing locality of the sun, and the hint of the autumnal scent. Soup sounds wonderful, especially the kind you suggested. I'm ready to break out the chili, myself. How I wish I had my own garden.

It's atarting to get cool here too. It's something like 70 degrees! I'm looking forward to our Indian Summer when all the hurricanes are done moving though the neighborhood.
