Malaria

I think that Kristen has Malaria but we're not sure. She's going to go to the doctor later today and figure it out. It sounds like she has all of the symptoms. If you want an update, you should go to Kristen's blog (by the time most of you read this it will probably be up).

Recently, I went disc golfing with my friend Ben. I am sore in the right pec now. Anyhow, i look forward to challenging Ben next weekend or something like that to another round. We played 36 holes. i'll get him next time.

Furthermore, I recently picked up a game called "Once Upon a Time" that I played a few times when I was a kid. It's such a fun game and usually the stories that you come up with sound like weird dreams (which takes me back to my mefloquine days -> which brings me back to the point that I think that Kristen might have malaria (the world's most deadly disease...lol... she'll be fine)).

I was wondering when you'd finally get around to actually moaning about Kristen being in India :-)

How could Kristen have malaria if she's taking mefloquine to not get malaria? What a bummer to have to deal with the medicine and then still get the disease!

Mefloquine doesn't kill the malaria protozoan rather, it only weakens it. People in good health usually are able to just fight it off or keep it under control. However, when someone isn't healthy or when a healthy person is, say, under a lot of stress and then becomes immuno-compromised on a small scale malaria can take over and show symptoms. Usually, the first symptoms are weak and many people taking prophylaxis don't get it treated until it's bad. anyhow, Kristen should be fine in a few days, provided that she gets to the doctor soon.

Infuse is NOT the world's deadliest disease - it kills as many people as it does because so many people don't have access to adequate medical facilities when they need treatment. If Kristin has gone to the doctors then there's not much to worry about, they are used to diagnosing and treating malaria - I remember being told in gambia that if I was going to get ill to get malaria because they know how to treat it well. None the less, she has my prayers.

how malaria became INFUSE when I typed it I don't know - but the rest made sense!

LOL! I thought it rather funny, the infuse bit:)

I just thought maybe infuse was the British word for malaria.

The way Helen describes the amount of work that she does for Infuse you might think it was malaria (besides, I'm sure that it's brought her to the edge more often than malaria has, for sheer exposure). However, I think, Helen, that I must disagree. If malaria kills more people than any other disease then I think that that qualifies it for the most deadly disease. If you want to make arguments about the speed and surety with which it kills I'll bow to your argument. But, then we'd have to say that human avarice and pride are the world's most lethal diseases.

Actually, I could live with that.

Correction: Human avarice and pride the world's most lethal diseases!
