Maman blogged about the other night when we went to sumo boy.
It was good, I made everyone get sushi and just about everyone accidentally ate the Tekka Maki. Good for them, they ate raw fish and it didn't kill them.
Later on in the evening, during a strained discussion, Linda gave Kristen permission to marry me. We are, it feels so weird to say, engaged to be married some time between July 23 and August 13.
Posted by Mendon at March 20, 2005 1:38 PMGeesh - show some excitement boy!!
Congratulations!! I was so happy when I found out that I was crying!!!
Now we'll just have to see whether I/we can make it for the weddding. Kinda' doubt it - even if I/we can get the time off, we won't have the funds to come home briefly for your wedding and then again in November. Not to mention that we have no idea what we're doing - going or staying - so, I guess it's a big 'we'll see'. By the way, Kristen, where will you be going in India? I've got friends waiting to hear so that they can let the youth of the city (-ies) know! (they'll also give me NSA contact info for you) :-)
Lots of love to you both! Welcome to the family, Kristen!
Posted by: Mara Fojas at March 20, 2005 5:16 PMKristen and I are excited, it's much more of a cool happiness. It's a little bit like a sigh of relief. The amount of stress we're under right now has put us in a position that getting over this hill only provides us with more to climb.
Linda is moving to Phoenix, getting married April 2, effectively leaving Kristen homeless in the Cleveland area. So we've been moving Kristen over here during the week so that when she comes back in August she'll have something to her name. It's all kind of crazy.
We're excited but mostly we're very very happy.
Posted by: Mendon at March 21, 2005 8:59 AMOr she gave you permission to marry me. (I think "us" and "each other" more.) And, as much as Mara seems to be right to demand enthusiam from you, I'm no better. This past week has left us both exhausted and, although I'm slowly coming back around to being able to be excited, I am consistently confronted with how much we actually have to do now... while I'm taking 21 cr.hrs and planning a trip to India. eh-heh.
Mara, I'll be in Chennai (mostly), but I really want to be able to go to the temple in Delhi, as well. I'll be there for most of May, all of June, and I'll leave sometime in July (maybe even August). Crazy. You'll hear more about the trip once I know more about it (Srini will be here soon for that.) And, I'll maybe convince Mensch to post a picture on the blog this week (not of Srini; of us). We are both, as Mensch said, very happy (also relieved, very tired and stressed). :)

this is fabulous!!!
everyone's getting MARRIED
what is going ON
it's like people are growing up.
Dear Kristen,
I'll get working on the India stuff!
Love,
Mara
Posted by: Mara at March 23, 2005 1:14 AMit is kind of exciting. I'm starting to get very psyched myself. Though, am weary (as kristen says).
I wonder where Nathan's been lately? Anyone have an idea?
The rumor mill is that he'll be in DC next week- I consider Alexandria and DC to be one in the same. Nate...remember to bring my Christmas present!
Posted by: Rae at March 23, 2005 1:09 PMHi, guys!
I have been ill for a couple of days, so, while I've been faithfully killing the comment spam and trying to get templates to work, I haven't been active. Sorry.
Mendon and Kristen! Congratulations!
Traditionally, you offer your condolences to the groom and your congratulations to the bride, but in this case, congratulations to you both.
I'll be in Alexandria not next week but the following, starting on the 2d of April. Rae, I'll remember your Christmas present; sorry it's taken so long. I'm a derelict.
Mendon & Kristen, I need to know the dates so I can plan a trip across, because I wouldn't miss it for the world and a lot goes on in July and August, so let us know when you know.
Lotsa love! - Nathan
Posted by: Nathan Dornbrook at March 23, 2005 6:23 PMNathan,
It's funny; your mother said the opposite: One says "Best wishes" to the bride and "congratulations" to the groom. I think that this has something to do with hard-to-get women and the typical Monday-night-football man. Regardless, I agree that "congratulations" is appropriate for us both (as we are both happy and exhausted). Maybe we need a healthy collection of best wishes as well (see: exhausted).
Dates, as we discussed them last, will be either the 13th or the 14th of August. I'm glad to know that you'll be there; there have been a concerning number of people that have not shown the same enthusiam thus far.
Mara, great, I got a definite on funding today (but only after threats of bodily harm... agh Miami admin!).
Au revoir,
Posted by: Kristen at March 23, 2005 11:55 PMKristen,
Don't worry about the lack of enthusiasm from elsewhere; you're getting married for the two of you, not to please anyone else. You're a good match and make a good couple.
In practical matters, if either of you need help planning, drop me a line.
-Nathan
Posted by: Nathan Dornbrook at March 24, 2005 3:47 AMI'm not so sure that it bothers me all that much but there have been a few people who we wanted to be enthusiastic that displayed all of the enthusiasm of a wet cat. Like Aladdin's Jaffar, "Extatic."
So, off with them and on to the future and the wedding.
Nathan! You're opening a side-line in wedding planning?!? You never cease to amaze me. (lol)
